Ottawa Salus

Where hope finds a home

For more than four decades, Ottawa Salus has played a supportive role in the life stories of men and women derailed by severe and persistent mental health and substance use challenges.

Salus provides new beginnings and an important step in the recovery process — a stable home environment — including a transitional rehabilitation program, shared homes and independent living, and mental health programs and services customized to meet each person’s unique needs.

We started small with a shared home for 10 adults in downtown Ottawa in the late 1970s.

Today, Salus supports more than 800 adults through mental health programs and services and access to stable housing.

Ottawa Salus has

the people, programs, plans and with Salus Capilano, the building to help.

“Salus is an expert in permanent, supportive housing for people with severe and persistent mental illness and substance use health issues. We’ve been successfully doing this for more than 45 years.

We support over 800 adults through intensive support programs and services and transitional and permanent affordable housing.”

~ Mark MacAulay, President & CEO, Ottawa Salus

Community Collaboration and Continuous Innovation and Quality Improvement

Ottawa Salus is fully committed to its newly energized vision of challenging the status quo, leveraging community collaboration and creating a culture of continuous innovation and quality improvement to best serve the needs of its clients and play a leadership role in the local mental health and supportive housing community.

Through partnerships and collaborations with the Canadian Mental Health Association, Ottawa Community Housing, hospitals, health teams and other nonprofit agencies, Salus is helping to address the complex issues that negatively impact people’s abilities to live healthy, hope-filled and dignified lives.

More supportive and affordable housing is undoubtedly part of the solution, but it is only some of what is needed. Discovering new and innovative ways to improve programs and services and increasing access to research, training and education for hardworking, dedicated staff are central to addressing many issues.

These elements of innovation, collaboration, and continuous quality improvement are the pillars of Salus's strategic vision. They will live beyond this campaign to solve the many challenges that some deem insurmountable.

These pillars, along with our well-established culture of empathy and compassion, are what you can support when you support Salus and the Opening Doors to Dignity campaign.
